Lady Bisons Tennis Sweeps Spring Opener

The Harding women's tennis team opened the spring portion of their schedule on Tuesday with a 6-0 sweep over Ouachita Baptist in a non-conference matchup at the David Elliot Tennis Complex. The Lady Bisons did not drop a set in any match. Harding begins the season 1-0 while Ouachita Baptist falls to 2-2 on the year.
 
The Lady Bisons got off to a quick start in doubles action, securing the point with two 6-0 sweeps at No. 2 and No. 3. Allison and Emily Carpenter both won their eighth doubles matches of the year, but it was the first win as a duo at No. 2. Romane Britt and Lindy Carpenter teamed up at No. 3 for their 6-0 victory. Grace Dodd and Jing Jing Yang completed the doubles competition with a 6-3 win at No. 1.
 
Britt got the Lady Bisons out to a quick 2-0 lead with a straight set 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 4. Lindy Carpenter won 6-2, 6-4 at No. 6. Allison Carpenter secured the match for the Lady Bisons with 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 5. Moments later the Emily Carpenter also won 6-1, 6-4 at No. 3 to push the overall match score to 5-0.
 
Dodd, ranked number 12 in the Central Region in singles, picked up her first singles win in a dual match for the Lady Bisons with a 6-1, 6-0 at No. 1. Lina Romero finished the sweep with another straight set victory, winning 6-4, 6-1 at No. 2 doubles.
 
The Lady Bisons now have won 21 consecutive matches against Ouachita Baptist, dating back to 2005. It is also the ninth straight meeting between the two schools in which the Lady Bisons have swept the match. The Lady Bisons have not dropped a set in any match against the Tigers since March 2, 2019.
 
The Lady Bisons will travel to Springfield, Missouri this weekend to play two matches against Drury and Nebraska-Kearney. The Lady Bisons will face off against Drury of February 11 at 8 p.m.
