The No. 39-ranked Harding women's tennis team fell behind to Missouri Western, but
Emily Carpenter and
Grace Dodd won the final two singles matches to give the Lady Bisons a 4-3 win on Saturday at the Elliott Tennis Complex. The Lady Bisons push their win streak to six and are now 9-3 overall while Missouri Western falls to 6-2.
Doubles action was just a glimpse of what the rest of the match was going to look like.
Romane Britt and
Lindy Carpenter battled the No. 7-ranked doubles team in the Central Region at No. 2 in a back-and-forth set which ended with Britt and Carpenter winning their fifth straight match 6-4.
The Lady Bisons dropped another tight set at No. 3, before
Allison Carpenter and
Grace Dodd went to a tiebreak at No. 1 for the doubles point. Dodd and Carpenter also won their fifth straight match, winning 7-6 (7-3) and gave the Lady Bisons a 1-0 lead.
Missouri Western tied the match at 1-1 with a win at No. 4 before
Allison Carpenter pushed the Lady Bisons back in front with a 6-3, 7-5 win at No. 6. The Griffons took the next two matches at No. 3 and No. 2 and needed just one more victory to take the match.
Emily Carpenter leveled the match at 3 with a three-set win at No. 5 7-5, 4-6, 6-4. Dodd won her first set at No. 1 and had a chance to clinch the match in a second set tiebreaker but eventually won the third set and the match to clinch the victory for the Lady Bisons. Dodd defeated the No. 18-ranked player in the Central Region 6-2, 6-7 (3), 6-2.
The Lady Bisons will play again at home on Sunday (March 13) against Southwest Baptist beginning at 12 p.m.
