UAM Takes Series Opener

MONTICELLO, Ark. – Harding shutdown Arkansas-Monticello for four innings Friday before falling to the Weevils 10-0 in the first game of a three-game Great American Conference baseball series at Weevils Field.

Harding and Arkansas-Monticello will conclude the series Saturday with a noon doubleheader. The Bisons dropped to 18-12 overall and 10-9 in the GAC. Harding had won seven of their previous eight games.

Harding starter Carter McCall (4-2) allowed only one hit through the first four innings and finished with six strikeouts.

The Weevils scored four in the fifth, four in the seventh and two in the eighth.

Harding had hits from David Butterfield, Chris Witzke and Brendan Perrett. Witzke's hit extended his hitting streak to 10 games. Cody Smith was hit by a pitch to extend his on-base streak to 26 games.
