Softball Scores 18 Runs in Doubleheader Sweep at Northwestern Oklahoma

ALVA, Okla. – The Harding softball team got both wins in a Great American Conference doubleheader at Northwestern Oklahoma Friday. The Lady Bisons won 9-3 and 9-2.

Harding improves to 31-14 overall and 16-9 in the GAC. Friday's wins marked the sixth time in program history the Lady Bisons have won 30 or more games in a season.

Northwestern Oklahoma falls to 13-26-1 overall and 6-9-1 in the GAC.

GAME ONE

Three Harding pitchers combined for 12 strikeouts as the Lady Bisons defeated the Northwestern Oklahoma 9-3 in game one.

Jessica Bridges (5-1) got the win for Harding throwing 2.2 shutout innings without allowing a hit, walking none and striking out three. Lily Tanski started the game and went 3.1 innings and struck out six.

At the plate, the Lady Bisons were paced by Nicole Shano, who went 2-for-4 with a double, a home run and two RBI. Ashlyn Peterson compiled a standout performance at the plate as well, going 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBI. Chelsea Blankenship also chipped in for Harding, putting together three hits in four trips to the plate while adding a double and an RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Harding got on the board in the first inning scoring two runs on three hits and an error. Chelsea Blankenship picked up an RBI in the inning when she singled to the pitcher.

With runners at first and second in the third inning, Ashlyn Peterson hit a three-run home run to right field to give Harding a 5-0 lead. It was her second home run of the season. Hanna Jones also had two RBIs in the inning when she hit a single to left field. Nicole Shano knocked in the sixth run of the inning when she hit a sacrifice fly to right field that scored Ashton Bryce.

Northwestern Oklahoma got three runs in the fourth on a three-run homer.

Harding scored its ninth run of the game in the fifth inning when Nicole Shano hit a solo home run to left center. It was her team-leading 15th home run of the season.

GAME NOTES

» It was Peterson's second multiple RBI game of the season.
» The Harding pitching staff combined to strike out 12 Northwestern Oklahoma hitters.
» The Lady Bisons out-hit the Rangers at an 11-2 clip.
» Harding pitchers faced 25 Northwestern Oklahoma hitters in the game, allowing two ground balls and seven fly balls while striking out 12.
» Northwestern Oklahoma was led offensively by Mackenzie Adams, who went 1-for-3 with a home run and three RBI.
» Hannah Howell received the loss for the Rangers and falls to 9-10 on the season.

GAME TWO

Emma Curry and Nicole Shano each racked up two extra base hits to help lead the Harding Lady Bisons over Northwestern Oklahoma 9-2 in game two.

Maegan Pistokache (11-6) started in the circle and picked up the win. The right-hander went four innings, giving up two runs, both of them earned, on four hits, allowing one walk and striking out four. Jessica Bridges also made an impact in the circle for the Lady Bisons, throwing two scoreless innings while allowing one hit, with no walks and one strikeout.

Shano's two extra base hits were the highlight of a 2-for-3 day, and included two doubles, two walks and an RBI. Curry made her contribution with two doubles and two RBI, part of a 3-for-5 performance at the plate. Leigha Harris also chipped in for the Lady Bisons, putting together three hits in three trips to the plate while adding two walks and two RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Harding got the scoring started in the top of the first scoring three runs on four hits. After a lead off bunt single by Hanna Jones, Nicole Shano hit a double to right center to score Jones. Chelsea Blankenship knocked in two more runs when she hit a double to right field.

Harding added two more runs in the second when Leigha Harris hit a single to the shortstop.

Northwestern Oklahoma got two runs back in the second on a two-run home run.

Harding made it 6-2 in the fourth when Emma Curry doubled in a run.

The Lady Bisons added another run in the sixth when Harris scored on an error.

Harding took a 9-2 lead in the seventh scoring two runs on four hits. After a triple, Jones scored on a wild pitch for the eighth run. Curry hit another double to center field for Harding's final run of the game that scored Nicole Shano.

The two teams will wrap up their series Saturday with a single game starting at noon.
