Late Inning Surge Leads Crimson Storm Past Harding

SEARCY, Ark. — Southern Nazarene's Baylee Sales tossed a one-hit shutout to lead Southern Nazarene to a 3-0 victory over Harding on Monday afternoon at Lindy Lunceford Ingram Field.

The contest remained a scoreless pitcher's duel through six innings as Harding's Brooklyn Gobble and SNU's Sales traded zeroes. However, the Crimson Storm (26-23, 16-11 GAC) broke the deadlock in the top of the seventh with a three-run surge.

Presley Brott ignited the scoring with an RBI single through the right side to plate Britlyn Tripp. Macy Stewart followed with an RBI single down the right-field line, and Bailey Nettles added an insurance run with a sacrifice fly to center field to push the lead to 3-0.

Harding (24-17, 19-8 GAC) struggled to find an answer for Sales, who retired the side in order in the bottom of the seventh to seal the win. Sales (12-8) finished with three strikeouts and three walks, allowing only one hit.

That lone hit came from the bat of Zoey Neal, who singled down the left-field line in the fourth inning. Bailey Robinson reached base in all three of her plate appearances, drawing three walks and stealing a base.

Brooklyn Gobble (16-12) took the tough-luck loss for the Lady Bisons, allowing three runs on seven hits while striking out seven in 6.1 innings of work. Jorja Wheeler provided 0.2 innings of scoreless relief.

Harding will look to bounce back as they head to Russellville for a three-game GAC series against Arkansas Tech beginning Friday, April 24. First pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m.
