Harding Falls 6-2 to Oklahoma Baptist at GAC Tournament

HOT SPRINGS, Ark. – Senior David Butterfield had three hits, including his fourth home run of the season, but No. 3 seed Harding fell 6-2 to No. 6 seed Oklahoma Baptist Saturday at the Great American Conference Tournament.

Harding (31-17) plays No. 7 seed Arkansas-Monticello Sunday at 7 p.m. in an elimination game.

Butterfield hit the first pitch he saw for a home run in the bottom of the first to tie the game at 1-1. Cody Smith followed with a single and scored the second run on the second error of the inning by Oklahoma Baptist.

Harding struggled with runners on the rest of the game, and went only 1 for 15 with runners on base and 0 for 7 with runners in scoring position.

Oklahoma Baptist took the lead for good with a three-run homer in the fourth. A solo home run in the seventh gave Oklahoma Baptist a 5-2 lead before another run came across in the eighth.

Carter McCall (6-3) started and struck out seven over seven innings, allowing only six hits. Kyle Lane pitched the final two innings in relief.

Butterfield's three-hit game was his third of the season with three or more hits. Caleb Stull also added his third double.
