Sanchez Scores Late in Harding Loss to CBU

Box Score SEARCY – Freshman forward Matthew Sanchez notched Harding's first goal of the season Saturday, scoring on a penalty kick with under three minutes remaining in the Bisons 4-1 loss to Christian Brothers at the Stevens Soccer Complex.

Harding fell to 0-2-0 with the loss. The Bisons lost 2-0 to Union on Thursday in their season opener. Christian Brothers, a member of the Gulf South Conference located in Memphis, Tennessee, moved to 1-0-1. The Bucs tied 1-1 with Ouachita Baptist on Thursday.

Christian Brothers scored a pair of goals in each half and held Harding without a goal until late.

A Christian Brother defender fouled Sanchez in the box, and Sanchez took the penalty, shooting straight up the middle as the goalkeeper dived to the left.

Christian Brothers outshot Harding 20-9. Ignacio Arsuaga took four of Harding's nine shots and had two of the three shots on goal.

Harding plays the third of four straight home games to open the season next Friday against Mississippi College, its third straight opponent from the Gulf South Conference.
