Harding's Zlatar Headed to ITA Cup after Winning Central Regional Singles Title

EDMOND, Okla. – For the second straight fall tournament, Harding senior Dani Ortiz and sophomore Teodor Zlatar battled through the Flight A bracket to meet each other in the finals.

Ortiz won the first matchup between the two teammates in three sets at the SBU Fall Invitational. Sunday, the stakes were higher and Zlatar won the Flight A championship at the ITA Central Regional Championships to earn a spot at the ITA Cup, the NCAA Division II individual national championship tournament. It is possible that Ortiz could also earn an at-large bid.

Zlatar, a native of Ludbreg, Croatia, won 6-2, 0-6, 10-4 in the finals. He won six matches to win the tournament with four of them going three sets, including his quarterfinal, semifinal and final match.

Ortiz and Zlatar are combined 17-2 during the fall tournament season with their only losses coming to each other.

Sophomore Cas de Ruiter won three matches and reached the Flight A quarterfinals.

Harding senior Ricard Jove was the only player to go undefeated in the Flight B round robin singles competition.

The Bisons' top performance in the doubles competition came from senior Milosh Petrovic and freshman Andres Urquiola, who three matches and reached the consolation finals.
