Harding Women's Indoor Track Places Second at Rumble

PITTSBURG, Kan. – Recording two NCAA provisional marks, three event victories and two school records, the Harding women's indoor track and field team, comprised of almost 50 student-athletes, placed second of eight teams Friday at the Rumble in the Jungle Invitational, hosted by Pittsburg State University.

Harding finished with 88.5 points, trailing only host Pittsburg State.

Harding's two provisional marks, the standard required to qualify for the national meet, both came in the pole vault. Junior Sierra White, who earned All-America honors with a seventh-place finish at indoor nationals last season, cleared 3.77 meters or 12 feet, 4.5 inches. Senior Sarah Gautreaux recorded her first career provisional by also clearing 3.77 meters. The Lady Bison duo is currently tied for 13th nationally in Division II pole vault.

Mariah Miller, a junior, won the triple jump and broke her own school record with a mark of 11.64 meters or 38 feet, 2.25 inches. She broke her own record by a quarter of an inch. Miller had seven career event victories in the outdoor triple jump, but Friday's effort was her first career indoor victory.

Freshman Cella Nguema of France, broke Harding's 60-meter hurdle record in her first career meet. Her time of 9.17 seconds broke the old mark of 9.33 seconds, set by Olivia Ness in 2018.

Freshman Kaia Bieker earned her first career event victory, winning the 600-yard race in 1:27.77.

Harding also won the 4x400-meter relay. The team of Lisa Retailleau, Jenna Akins, Bieker and Jayden Ellerman finished in 3:57.68.
