Harding Shackles Southern Arkansas to Win Second Straight GAC Game

SEARCY – It was not always pretty on offense, but it was a masterpiece on defense.

Harding limited Southern Arkansas to only 19 field goals and 38% shooting and defeated the Muleriders 57-51 on Sunday in Great American Conference action at Rhodes-Reaves Field House.

Harding moved to 5-3 overall and are one of only three GAC teams with a perfect 2-0 conference record. Southern Arkansas had its 10-game winning streak over Harding come to an end and fell to 3-4 overall and 1-1 in conference.

Southern Arkansas hit a driving layup with 15:52 to take the lead 32-31. Sam Henderson answered with a 3-pointer to put the Bisons back in front. The game was tied twice after that, but Abou Gbane laid in a driving layup to start a 7-0 run that put Harding head 43-36 with 8:41 left.

Brahm Harris and Rylie Marshall hit key 3-pointers down the stretch, and J.T. Smith made two free throws to ice the game before Harris went coast-to-coast for a dunk at the buzzer for the final exclamation point.

Harding forced 17 turnovers and outscored Southern Arkansas 22-5 off those miscues.

Marshall led Harding with 17 points. Harris had 14 points and Henderson scored 10.
