Late Comeback Not Enough as Harding Baseball Falls to Ouachita

SEARCY, Ark. — Ouachita Baptist scored all six of its runs in the first five innings on Tuesday to secure a 6-4 victory over Harding at Jerry Moore Field in a nonconference midweek baseball matchup.

Brian Hamilton (1-1) made his fourth career start and third of the season for Harding. He allowed three runs, all earned, over 1.0+ inning, putting the Bisons in a hole early.

Harding's Cooper Newsom hit his fifth double of the season in the third and added his sixth in the fifth inning, his first career game with two doubles and his third multi-hit game.

In the sixth, Coulton Doyle lined his third double of the season off the centerfield wall, and Sawyer Price brought him home with a looping liner to center for his ninth RBI, putting Harding on the board. Doyle had two hits, his team-leading sixth multi-hit game this season.

However, Ouachita Baptist's pitching held strong, and Harding's comeback attempt ended in the ninth inning, despite Seth Johnson's two-out, two-run homer to right as part of Harding's three-run inning. It was Johnson's team-leading fourth home run.

Dylan Penick pitched 2 2/3 scoreless innings out of the bullpen for Harding, while Joey Lawhorn and Luke Whaley each pitched a scoreless inning.

Harding (12-4) now goes on the road to take on Southern Arkansas in Magnolia for a weekend series in conference play.
