Men’s Tennis Wins Close Contest at Newman 4-3

The Harding men's tennis team rebounded from a close loss on Thursday with a tight 4-3 victory against Newman on Friday in Wichita, Kansas. The Bisons improve to 8-7 while the Jets fall to 9-7. 

 

Harding grabbed the 1-0 lead after doubles action. Cas de Ruiter and Cian Mikkelsen, the No. 10-ranked duo in NCAA Division II, improved to 13-0 on the season with a 6-2 win at No. 1. The Bisons clinched the point with a 6-3 win at No. 3 by Bryce Walker and Jaydon Van Vreden

 

The Jets leveled the match at 1-1 after Walker was forced to retire at No. 3. De Ruiter and Mikkelsen continued to earn points for the Bisons, with victories at No. 1 and No. 2. De Ruiter earned the 6-3, 6-2 victory and Mikkelsen won 6-0, 6-2 for his third straight win. 

 

After a Jets win at No. 4, Van Vreden clinched the match for the Bisons in a close three-set win, coming back from one set down, 1-6, 7-6, 6-1. 

 

The Bisons will return to action on April 8 when they host Southern Arkansas in a GAC match at the Elliott Tennis Complex at 2 p.m.
