Fort Hays State Downs Harding 4-0 in Conference Matchup

HAYS, Kan. — Fort Hays State unleashed a potent offense in the second half, scoring four goals to defeat Harding 4-0 in a Great American Conference/Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association men's soccer matchup Thursday.

The Tigers (8-3-2, 5-2-1 conference) held a significant advantage in shots, outshooting the Bisons 23-4 overall and 14-1 in shots on goal.

After a scoreless first half, Jeremiah Johnson broke the deadlock in the 54th minute. Bastian Carlman doubled the lead eight minutes later, and Felix Tellez Ramirez converted a penalty kick in the 68th minute. Oliver Wright sealed the victory with a goal in the 76th minute.

Harding goalkeeper Inigo Chavarria kept his team in contention with 10 saves, one shy of his season high. The Bisons' lone shot on goal came from Matthew Sanchez in the 80th minute.

Fort Hays State's win solidified its position in the conference standings, moving the Tigers into third place with 16 points, just one point behind co-leaders Southern Nazarene and Rogers State.

The loss kept Harding in seventh place in the seven-team conference with three points.

The Bisons (1-10-3, 1-7-0) will look to bounce back Saturday at 11 a.m. against Newman in Wichita, Kansas, in the second game of their three-game road trip.
