Harding Steals Road Win at Southwest Baptist

BOLIVAR, Mo. — Harding fought its way to an 84-75 victory over Southwest Baptist in a nonconference men's basketball matchup on Thursday.

The Bisons (3-1) jumped out to an early 9-0 lead and never looked back, connecting on nine 3-pointers in the first half to take a 47-33 halftime advantage. Kelyn McBride and Rylie Marshall paced Harding with 17 points each. Dylan Munroe's hook shot gave Harding its largest first-half lead of 16 points with 9:14 remaining.

Wesley Booker added a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds, while going 6-of-6 from the free-throw line. The Bisons also excelled on defense, with nine different players combining to notch 16 steals — their most against an NCAA Division II team since they had 16 against Southern Arkansas in 2010 and their most in a road game since posting 17 steals against Alabama Huntsville in 2004.

Southwest Baptist's Mitch Ganote led all scorers with 19 points and nine rebounds, but the Bearcats (2-2) struggled from beyond the arc, hitting just 4-of-16 3-pointers.

Despite a late surge, Southwest Baptist couldn't overcome the deficit. The Bearcats closed within two points with 6:06 remaining, but Harding responded with six consecutive points, sealed by Wyatt Gilbert's layup and Booker's jumper and two free throws.

McBride cemented the win with four clutch free throws in the final 30 seconds, capping an impressive 5-of-5 performance from the line. Marshall connected on 4-of-9 3-pointers, and Harding shot 18-of-21 (86%) from the free-throw line.

Harding next travels to Christian Brothers on Tuesday.
