Hawley's Big Night Propels Harding to 94-88 Overtime Win

SEARCY, Ark. — Sage Hawley had a monster game with 31 points and a season-high 18 rebounds to lead Harding to a 94-88 overtime victory over Henderson State in Great American Conference women's basketball action Saturday.

Hawley, who moved past Kymm Alexander for second on Harding's career scoring list with 1,913 points, scored 11 of the Lady Bisons' 17 first-quarter points. She notched her fifth double-double of the season and 57th of her career.

Trailing 28-17 after the first quarter, Harding chipped away at the deficit and eventually tied the game for the first time since early in the first quarter on a Maddi Holt putback layup with 5:44 left in the third. Rory Geer then made two free throws to give Harding a 47-45 lead with 5:30 remaining.

The game was tied five times down the stretch and was knotted 80-80 with 1:08 left in regulation. Henderson State took an 82-80 lead with 32.0 seconds left, but Aubrey Isbell was fouled with 19.3 seconds left and made both free throws to tie the game at 82-82.

In overtime, Isbell scored on a left-handed layup on Harding's first possession, and the Lady Bisons never trailed again. Hawley sealed the win with a layup and 1:38 left, and Harding made 6 of 6 free throws in the final 2:51 to secure the victory.

Isbell scored 20 points, connecting on 10 of 10 free throws, while Geer had 14 points, including 8 of 8 at the free throw line. Maddi Holt added 13 points and seven rebounds.

Harding shot 32-of-34 (94.1%) at the free throw line, while Henderson State was 16 of 19 at the free throw line. Harding's free throw percentage was teh fourth-best in program history and 32 free throws made tied for eighth-most in a game.

Natalie Cardenas came off the bench to lead Henderson State with 32 points.

With the win, Harding improved to 7-2 overall and 4-0 in the GAC, tied with Oklahoma Baptist atop the conference standings. Henderson State fell to 3-7 overall and 1-3 in the GAC.

Harding's next action is Monday at 2 p.m. against NAIA foe Faulkner at the Rhodes-Reaves Field House.
