Tigers Hand Bisons First Home Loss

SEARCY, Ark. — Ouachita Baptist shot 60% from the field in the first half and withstood a second-half surge by Harding, handing the Bisons a 96-84 loss Thursday at the Rhodes-Reaves Field House.

The loss dropped Harding to 7-4 overall and 3-2 in the Great American Conference. It was the Bisons' first home loss in four games this season.

Sam Smith led Harding with 22 points and eight rebounds, shooting 9-of-14 from the field and making two 3-pointers. Rylie Marshall added 21 points.

Ouachita Baptist's Shaun Williams scored a game-high 26 points, and Hobart Grayson had 20.

The Tigers dominated the paint in the first half, outscoring Harding 26-10 and taking a 47-40 lead into halftime. Harding stayed close by connecting on six 3-pointers and 8 of 9 free throws.

The Bisons opened the second half on a 9-0 run, taking a 49-47 lead on a pair of Keyln McBride free throws. However, Ouachita Baptist responded with a 16-4 run and led 75-67 with seven minutes left. The Tigers made six 3-pointers and went 15 of 20 from the free throw line in the second half.

Harding's next game is Jan. 4 at Southern Arkansas in Magnolia.
