Harding Hangs With GAC-Leader Southeastern Before Falling Late

DURANT, Okla. – Harding had won four of its previous five games but struggled to slow the high-powered offense of Great American Conference co-leader Southeastern Oklahoma in a 99-86 loss Saturday at Bloomer Sullivan Arena.

Southeastern connected on 16 3-pointers and improved to 15-7 overall and 11-3 in conference. Harding is 9-11 overall and 6-8 in conference and still in the hunt for one of eight GAC Tournament spots. The Bisons exit Saturday's games tied for seventh with Southern Arkansas.

Harding shot it as well has it has all season in the first half, connecting on 60% from the field, 5-of-9 from 3-point range and a perfect 12-of-12 from the free throw line.

Despite that, Harding trailed 50-47 at the break. Southeastern shot 56% and made eight 3-pointers to hold a slight advantage.

Abou Gbane led HU with 10 points and six rebounds at the break. He made all eight of his free throw attempts in the first half.

Harding still shot well in the second half, hitting 45.7% from the field, but the Bisons could not keep pace with Southeastern, who made eight 3-pointers in each half and had three players with 20 points or more.

Rylie Marshall and Gbane both had 17 points. Sam Smith scored 12, Brahm Harris had 11 and Sam Henderson finished with 10. Gbane had a season-high 10 rebounds for his first double-double as a Bison.

Harding returns to the Rhodes-Reaves Field House on Thursday to host Oklahoma Baptist.
