Harding Falls at Henderson State; Qualifies as No. 7 Seed for GAC Tournament

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – Abou Gbane scored a season-high 22 points, Sam Henderson added 19 points and Sam Smith scored 17, but Harding could not overcome 57% shooting from 3-point range from Henderson State and fell to the Reddies 102-90 on Saturday at the Duke Wells Center.

Despite the loss, Harding qualified for the GAC Tournament for the first time since the 2016-17 season. The Bisons (12-16, 9-13) will be the No. 7 seed and take on No. 2 Arkansas Tech on Thursday, March 7 at noon at FireLake Arena in Shawnee, Oklahoma.

Seven different Harding players combined for nine 3-pointers in the first half, but 49% shooting from the field left Henderson State ahead 46-43 at the break.

Henderson led the Bisons with 14 points at the break. He made 5-of-7 shots, including two 3-pointers.

Harding used eight straight free throws and a Keyln McBride jumper to trim a 10-point Henderson State lead to only three at 78-75 with 6:58 left. The Reddies answered with seven straight points in less than a minute and pulled away.

Malek Davis scored 40 points for Henderson State.

Gbane was 5-of-7 from the field and made all 10 of his free throw attempts. Henderson made three of Harding's 14 3-pointers, and Sam Smith went 7-of-12 from the field.
