SEARCY – It took 12 innings to get a winner as Henderson State came out on top against the Harding softball team 9-7 in Great American Conference action.
The Reddies win the GAC series 2-1 after winning one game in the doubleheader Friday.
Harding falls to 24-11 overall and 14-6 in the GAC.
Henderson State improves to 15-21 overall and 7-13 in the GAC.
Abby Burch pitched 10 2/3 innings of relief for Harding. She received the loss and falls to 10-5 on the season. Riley Price started and went 1 1/3 innings.
Mariana Caro led Harding at the plate going 4-for-6 with two runs scored.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Henderson State took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first on a fielder's choice RBI and a sacrifice fly.
The Reddies made it 3-0 on an RBI single by Jay Albiter in the second.
Harding took a 5-3 lead in the third scoring five runs on three hits and two errors. Jordan Cabana highlighted the inning with a three-run homer to left. It was her fifth of the season.
Henderson State took the lead again in the fifth scoring three runs on four hits and an error to lead 6-5.
Harding tied the game in the bottom of the sixth when Macy Ham hit a triple to right center that scored Madison Fraley from first.
The Reddies took a 9-6 lead in the 12th , scoring three runs on three hits and a error.
In the bottom of the 12th, Harding got a run back when Emma Curry hit a single that scored Mariana Caro from second. Harding had runners at first and second with one out but the Lady Bisons hit into a double play to end the game.
GAME NOTES
- It was the second longest game in Harding program history. The Lady Bisons played 14 innings against Henderson State in 2015. Harding lost that game 5-4.
- Harding was outhit 16-11 Saturday.
- The Lady Bisons had four stolen bases.
- Abby Burch faced 46 Henderson State batters in the game.
- Jay Albiter led Henderson State at the plate going 5-for-6 with three RBI and a run scored.
- Makenna Keeton got her first win of the season for the Reddies and she improves to 1-5 on the season. She pitched nine innings, gave up two earned runs and gave up five hits.

Harding will be back in action next weekend as it travels to Arkadelphia, Arkansas to take on Ouachita Baptist in a three-game GAC series. First pitch is scheduled for Friday at 4 p.m.
