Early Deficit Leads to Harding Defeat in GAC Tournament Semifinals

SHAWNEE, Okla. – No. 2 seed Harding fell behind early and never completely recovered in a 79-72 loss to No. 6 seed Southwestern Oklahoma on Saturday in the semifinals of the Great American Conference Tournament at FireLake Arena.

The loss dropped the Lady Bisons to 25-5 overall and has the team awaiting word from the NCAA on its postseason fate. The NCAA Division II selection show will occur Sunday at 9:30 p.m. on NCAA.com.

Harding shot only 18% in the first quarter and 28% in the first half and fell behind 37-23 at halftime.

The Bisons employed a full-court press for the entire second half and pulled within three points twice in the fourth quarter but never got closer.

Harding, the third-ranked free-throw shooting team in the GAC, struggled at the line. The Lady Bisons shot only 11-of-24.

Kendrick Bailey made five 3-pointers and led Harding with 18 points. Rory Geer had 16 point and 11 rebounds, and Aubrey Isbell added 16 points.

Harding is seeking its first appearance in the NCAA Tournament since reaching the national semifinals in 2017.
