HU Men's Tennis Wins Regular Season Finale at Newman; Clinches Tourney Top Seed

WICHITA, Kan. – Winning the doubles point and five of the six singles matches, 38th-ranked Harding defeated Newman 6-1 in its final regular season match. With the victory, Harding improved to 14-7 overall and 3-1 in the MIAA/GAC South.

The Bisons also clinched the No. 1 seed from the South Division in the upcoming MIAA/GAC Tournament. Harding will have a bye in the first round and play the winner of the North No. 2 seed and South No. 3 seed on Thursday, May 2 in Edmond, Oklahoma.

Harding won the doubles point for the sixth time in the last seven matches. Fourth-ranked Cas de Ruiter and Teodor Zlatar won 6-3 at No. 1, and Cian Mikkelsen and Florian Gayme won 7-6 (7-4) at No. 2 to clinch the point.

All five singles wins came in straight sets.

Dani Ortiz won his 59th career singles match 6-3, 6-1 at No. 1. 39th-ranked Teodor Zlatar won his team-leading 14th singles match this season and his team-best 12th dual match 6-1, 6-4 at No. 2.

57th-ranked Cas de Ruiter won 6-2, 6-1 at No. 3 for his 13th singles victory. Cian Mikkelsen won 6-2, 6-1 at No. 4, and Bryce Walker won for the ninth time in his last 10 singles matches with a 6-1, 6-3 victory at No. 5. Walker ranks 16th at Harding with 61 career singles wins.
