HU Men's Tennis Blanks Southeastern to Reach GAC/MIAA Tournament Final

EDMOND, Okla. – After earning a point in a tight doubles battle, 41st-ranked Harding won the first three singles matches and defeated Southeastern Oklahoma 4-0 on Thursday morning to advance to the finals Friday against No. 9 Washburn.

Harding won its fifth straight match and improved to 15-7 overall. The Bisons' win total is the team's highest since winning 20 matches in 2011-12.

Harding men's tennis has never won a conference tournament championship since joining Division II during the 1997-98 season.

Doubles came down to two teams ranked in the top seven nationally in Division II. Harding's No. 3-ranked team of Cas de Ruiter and Teodor Zlatar edged Southeastern's No. 7-ranked team, 7-5. It was de Ruiter's 20th doubles win of the season, the first player to reach that total since Luis Tirado and Carlos Crisostomo won 22 in 2017-18.

Harding also won at No. 3 doubles, where Florian Gayme and Cian Mikkelsen triumphed 6-4.

De Ruiter, ranked 59th in singles, quickly won 6-1, 6-4 at No. 3 singles. No. 40 Zlatar won 5-7, 6-4, 6-1 at No. 2 singles, and Dani Ortiz upset the 45th-ranked player in Division II 6-4, 3-6, 7-6 (4).
