Harding Baseball Ends Regular Season Part of Three-Way Championship Tie; Hosts GAC Tourney Series

SEARCY – The outright Great American Conference championship was not to be, but Harding finished the regular season with a 33-15 overall record tied two other teams (Arkansas Tech and Arkansas-Monticello) atop the conference standings at 23-10, a new school record for conference wins in a season.

Saturday, Harding fell 9-5 to Arkansas Tech at Jerry Moore Field, ending the Bisons' 12-game winning streak. Harding honored eight seniors after the game, and those eight plus the rest of the team will be back in action next weekend in Searcy, hosting the first round of the GAC Tournament.

Harding will be the No. 3 seed and will host either Northwestern Oklahoma or Ouachita Baptist depending on the result of NWOSU's game with Southwestern Oklahoma tomorrow. The teams will play a best two-of-three series next weekend with the first game Friday at 6 p.m. and a doubleheader, if necessary, Saturday at 1 p.m. The winner advances to the GAC Championship at Dickey-Stephens Ballpark in North Little Rock, Arkansas, on May 9-11.

Harding opened Saturday's game with three runs in the first inning. Cooper Newsom drove in a run with his 11th double, and Sawyer Price had an RBI single.

Tech took a 6-3 lead with five runs in the fourth. Harding answered with two in the bottom of the fourth, with Nathan Bowie driving in a run on his 12th double. But the Bisons got no closer.

Bowie went 2-for-4, his 16th multiple-hit game, with a pair of runs and an RBI to lead the offense. Logan Lacey extended his hitting streak to 11 games, the longest by a Harding player this season.
