RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – The Great American Conference announced the volleyball players of the week for the second week of the 2024 season. Arkansas Tech's Henley Hooks and East Central's Odalys Gonzalez shared Offensive Player of the Week; Henderson State's Kaylon Partain earned Defensive Player of the Week and Harding's
Olivia Wiedower claimed Setter of the Week.
#theGAC VOLLEYBALL OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Henley Hooks, RS, Arkansas Tech, So., Benton, Arkansas
Hooks paced the Golden Suns offense at the Lee Flames Invitational. Over the course of four matches, Hooks totaled 57 kills and had an attack percentage of .339. She averaged 4.07 kills per set. She set a single-match career-high with 24 kills against Lee. She hit at least .347 in three matches, highlighted by a .542 percentage in a sweep of Georgia College & State.
#theGAC VOLLEYBALL OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Odalys Gonzalez, OH, East Central, Sr., Brownsville, Texas
Gonzalez led the conference in kills per set, 4.47, and ranked second in points per set, 4.74. as the Tigers earned two wins. She hit .323 with 14 kills against Science and Arts. She followed up with 20 kills against Anderson and 19 against Texas A&M International. She registered three double-doubles.
#theGAC VOLLEYBALL DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Kaylon Partain, DS, Henderson State, So., Atlanta, Texas
Partain led the conference in total digs, 130, and digs per set, 6.84 as the Reddies posted a 3-2 week. She earned a spot on the Denton Volleyfest All-Tournament team after she averaged 7.19 digs per set across the four matches. She totaled at least 20 digs in all four contests, highlighted by a career-high 33 in a five-set come-from-behind victory against Pittsburg State.
#theGAC VOLLEYBALL SETTER OF THE WEEK – Olivia Wiedower, S, Harding, So., Conway, Arkansas
Wiedower averaged a GAC-leading 10.87 assists per set last week as the Lady Bisons split their four Alabama-Huntsville Classic matches. She garnered a spot on the All-Tournament Team after tallying 38 assists in a sweep of Tusculum, 44 in a four-set win against Emmanuel, 54 - one off her career high - against Alabama Huntsville and 27 againsts No. 18 Ferris State.
