McBride's Career Night Lifts Harding Past Arkansas Tech, 84-75

SEARCY, Ark. — Keyln McBride scored a career-high 24 points to lead Harding men's basketball to an 84-75 victory over Arkansas Tech in a Great American Conference matchup at the Rhodes-Reaves Field House on Thursday.

Harding improved to 10-7 overall and 6-5 in conference games, while Arkansas Tech fell to 7-10 overall and 4-7 in conference.

The game was marked by strong defense from both teams, making it difficult to get good shots early in the first half. However, Harding found its rhythm, making seven of its last 11 shots, while Tech hit eight straight shots to take a 31-28 lead with 3:43 left in the half.

Rylie Marshall led Harding with 11 points at halftime, with the team making 8 of 15 3-pointers in the first half. Tech made 5 of 9 3-pointers in the first half, with the teams combining for 10 lead changes and 12 ties in the first half.

Harding opened the second half on a 7-0 run, taking a 47-39 lead with 18:31 left. The team extended its lead to 57-43 on a Josh Denton 3-pointer from the right wing with just over 15 minutes left.

Tech made several pushes to cut the lead, including a 7-0 run to cut the lead to 59-52 with 11:25 left. However, Harding responded with a run of its own, hitting five of six shots to push its lead to 69-56 with 8:12 remaining.

McBride made several key plays down the stretch, including two free throws to put Harding ahead 78-70 with 2:36 left. He also made two more free throws with 50 seconds left to give Harding an 84-73 lead.

Sam Smith scored 18 points for Harding, shooting 7 of 12 from the field. Marshall scored 18 points after missing the last three games with an injury and made 4 of 6 3-pointers. Josh Denton came off the bench and made four 3-pointers to score 12 points.

Harding made 11 of 24 3-pointers and 15 of 17 free throws, while shooting 53.7% from the field, its fifth game this season over 50%. The team shot 60.7% (17 of 28) from the field in the second half.

Cassius Brooks led Tech with 26 points.

Harding's next game is Saturday at Ouachita Baptist in Arkadelphia, Arkansas.
