Harding Falls to Northwestern Oklahoma at Home, Snapping Streak

SEARCY — Harding women's basketball suffered a 63-61 loss to Northwestern Oklahoma on Thursday at the Rhodes-Reaves Field House, snapping a 33-game home winning streak.
The loss dropped Harding to 15-4 overall and 11-2 in the Great American Conference, tying them with Southern Nazarene for first place in the conference standings. Northwestern Oklahoma improved to 10-9 overall and 7-6 in conference play, earning its first win in 12 games against Harding in Searcy.

In a matchup of the top two scoring teams in the GAC, Harding's offense struggled in the fourth quarter, shooting only 3 of 14 (21.4%) from the field. Northwestern Oklahoma took advantage, shooting 8 of 16 (50%) in the quarter to secure the win.

Aubrey Isbell led Harding with 19 points, 17 of which came in the second half. Sage Hawley added 18 points and nine rebounds, while Rory Geer pulled down a season-high 15 rebounds to go along with four points.

In the fourth quarter, Isbell's 3-pointer from the top of the key gave Harding a 54-48 lead with 8:25 remaining. However, the Lady Bisons went cold, failing to score for over six minutes as Northwestern Oklahoma scored eight straight points to take a 56-55 lead with 2:18 left. Hawley's free throw cut the deficit to one, and after a Northwestern turnover, Geer made two free throws to tie the game at 61-61 with 11.4 seconds left. But Northwestern Oklahoma responded with a put-back rebound with 2.0 seconds left to take the lead, and Harding was unable to get a shot off on its final possession.

Camille Thomas paced Northwestern Oklahoma with nine points.

Harding, which entered the game shooting 79.2% from the free throw line, struggled at the charity stripe, converting only 16 of 26 (61.5%) attempts.

The Lady Bisons will look to bounce back on Saturday when they host Southwestern Oklahoma.
