Harding Draws Despite Fiery Second Half in Physical Battle with Newman

WICHITA, Kan. – Despite a hard-fought outing from the Harding men's soccer team, they settled for a 1-1 draw with Newman on Saturday at Wilkins Field.

The Bisons came out of halftime with energy and were rewarded just 52 seconds in. Jacob Hernandez threaded a pass into the box, and freshman forward Loveveer Kullar calmly finished for his first career goal, putting Harding ahead 1-0 in the 47th minute.

From there, the match turned chaotic. Newman picked up multiple cards—including three reds—as Harding tried to hold its lead. Despite being down players, the Jets found the equalizer in the 79th minute when Yohsuke Ono scored off a low cross from Eduardo Dos Santos.

Harding pushed for a winner in the final minutes, and Cian Halpin created multiple chances, but the Bisons couldn't break through again.

Goalkeeper Dillon Hart was stellar, recording six saves—five in the second half—to preserve the draw. Harding finished with six shots to Newman's 15, while the Jets held an 11-1 advantage in corner kicks.

With the result, Harding moved to 2-7-2 overall and 0-4-1 (sixth place) in conference play. Newman is now 5-2-4 and 2-1-2 (fourth place).

The Bisons are back in action next Friday, Oct. 16, against Ouachita Baptist at 6 p.m. at the Stevens Soccer Complex in Searcy, Ark.
