MILLER’S RECORD 298 YARDS, 4 TDS POWER NO. 2 HARDING PAST HENDERSON STATE

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. (AP) — Andrew Miller set a school record with 298 rushing yards and a career-high four touchdowns, as No. 2 Harding used a dominant second half to defeat Henderson State 35-10 Saturday in a Great American Conference game marred by multiple lightning delays.

Miller's historic performance, highlighted by scoring runs of 75 and 90 yards, broke the Harding single-game rushing record set by Joe David Smith in 1975. The victory kept the Bisons (7-0, 7-0 GAC) atop the conference standings and handed the Reddies (5-2, 5-2) their second loss of the season. Harding has won its first seven games for the third time in program history.

The game was lengthy, spanning over five hours due to a 30-minute first-half delay and a two-hour stoppage in the third quarter. Despite the disruptions and a slow start, Harding's defense proved the difference early.

Henderson State took a 3-0 lead on a 36-yard field goal by Ryan McDonnell after consuming 7:21 of the first quarter clock. The Reddies controlled the ball for over 18 minutes in the first half and ran 41 plays to Harding's 13, but the Bisons' defense forced five total turnovers (four lost fumbles, one interception). Harding converted those takeaways into 13 points.

The Bisons' first score came after Justin Sobczak forced a fumble, recovered by Brock Knapton, on the Henderson State 6-yard line. Miller punched it in from 3 yards out two plays later to take a 7-3 lead with 3:09 left in the half.

Harding's vaunted triple-option offense exploded after the halftime break. Miller took the first play of the third quarter 75 yards for a touchdown. Later in the quarter, immediately after the second lightning delay lifted, he broke free again for a 90-yard score, tying the third-longest run in program history and setting a new record for a Harding road game.

The Bisons finished with 338 rushing yards on just 46 attempts. Miller's 298 yards accounted for nearly 88 percent of that total. Braden Jay added a 2-yard rushing touchdown later in the third quarter after another forced fumble by Sobczak to make it 28-3.

Defensively, linebacker Clark Griffin was relentless, leading the team with a career-high 18 tackles, one forced fumble, and two pass breakups, as Harding held the Reddies to just 90 net rushing yards and forced quarterback Andrew Edwards into four sacks.

Miller finished the scoring with a 7-yard touchdown run with 1:55 left in the fourth, securing the 35-10 final score.

Harding returns home next Saturday to host Arkansas-Monticello at 2 p.m.
