BROKEN ARROW, Okla. — The Harding women's golf team finished the first two rounds of the Tulsa Cup presented by Banc First holding firm in seventh place, powered by a remarkable season-best round from senior Pilar Martinez. The final round will tee off Tuesday at 8:30 a.m.
Martinez, who carded her best round of the season with an even-par 72 in the second round, is currently tied for eighth place individually at 2-over 146. Her seven birdies across the two rounds at the 5,904-yard, par-72 Forest Ridge Golf Club are tied for the second-most in the entire tournament field.
The Lady Bisons shot 17-over 305 in the second round, a six-stroke improvement over their 23-over 311 opening round. Harding's 36-hole total stands at 40-over 616, putting them firmly in the top half of the 19-team field entering the final round.
No. 31-ranked Rogers State leads the tournament at 7-over 583, followed closely by No. 36 Arkansas Tech at 8-over 584. No. 23 Central Missouri rounds out the top three at 19-over 595.
Harding's senior Madeleine Wilson was the team's second-lowest scorer, climbing 14 spots on the leaderboard after firing a 2-over 74 in the second round. Wilson sits tied for 30th at 9-over 153. Junior Sydney Kincade is tied for 41st at 12-over 156 (77-79), while junior Cooper Meyer is tied for 53rd at 17-over 161 (81-80). Freshman Alyson Thomas, making her Harding debut, is tied for 90th at 34-over 178.
Arkansas Tech's Ellen Spigner is the individual leader at 3-under 140, one stroke ahead of Brianna Maddox of Rogers State.
Conditions for the opening day included cloudy skies with a high of 65 degrees and a steady 5 mph wind blowing out of the northeast. The average score for the second round (80.31) was slightly lower than the first (80.81).
