SEARCY — The Harding Bisons men's soccer team was eliminated from Great American Conference/Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association tournament contention Thursday night, falling 3-2 to the Newman Jets at the Stevens Soccer Complex.
Two late goals by Newman sealed the victory for the Jets and ended the Bisons' post-season hopes.
The match started with Newman (7-3-5, 4-2-3 GAC/MIAA) taking an early lead when Henri Gregoire scored in the 19th minute, assisted by Eduardo Dos Santos.
Harding (2-11-2, 0-8-1 GAC/MIAA) fought back in the second half. Mason Hahn leveled the score at 1-1 in the 58th minute, netting the ball bottom center off an assist from Maverick McCaig for his second goal of the season. Just eight minutes later, Reik Barrack gave the Bisons the lead, finding the top right of the net in the 66th minute with his first goal.
Newman quickly responded, tying the game at 2-2 in the 81st minute with a goal from Tomas Melon, who was assisted by Gregoire and Dos Santos. The Jets then scored the decisive goal two minutes later, as Jonathan Garcia found the bottom center of the goal off his right foot for the 3-2 final score.
Harding has three games left in the season with the first coming Saturday at 11 a.m. at home against No. 4-ranked Fort Hays State.
