BETHANY, Okla. — Harding forward Mykala Ulrich scored the decisive goal with only 37 seconds left to play to lift the Lady Bisons over Southern Nazarene 2-1 on Saturday afternoon, securing a crucial Great American Conference victory.
The win moved Harding (4-4-1, 2-1-0 GAC) into sole possession of fourth place in the conference standings with six points.
Harding opened the scoring early at the 7:55 mark. Sami Berry delivered a cross into the box, which Southern Nazarene goalkeeper Gianna Bonnett mishandled. Kendall Jerkins capitalized on the error, tapping the ball in from point-blank range for her first goal of the season.
The match remained 1-0 until the final moments of the second half. Southern Nazarene (2-7-1, 0-4-0 GAC) equalized when Adison Johnson scored at 88:06, assisted by Ella Adams, setting up a tense finish.
However, Harding quickly responded just over a minute later. At 89:23, a failed clearance attempt by the Southern Nazarene defense resulted in a scramble in front of the goal. Ulrich was able to score from close range, converting the unassisted game-winner, her second goal of the year.
Harding outshot the Crimson Storm 15-8, putting seven attempts on goal. Goalkeeper Maysa Willis registered one save for the Lady Bisons.
Harding next plays GAC-leader Northwestern Oklahoma on Thursday, Oct. 9, in Alva, Oklahoma.
