SEARCY, Ark. — Maddi Holt scored a career-high 21 points and No. 10-ranked Harding tied a historical program mark for perimeter shooting to defeat Missouri Western 86-71 on Saturday night at the Rhodes-Reaves Field House.
The Lady Bisons (4-0) remained undefeated behind a barrage of 3-pointers. Harding connected on 15 of 27 attempts (55.6%) from beyond the arc, tying for the second-most made 3-pointers in program history and the most since setting the school record of 16 against Southeastern Oklahoma on Jan. 13, 2014.
Harding was equally efficient at the free-throw line, making 21 of 22 attempts (95.5%). That mark stands as the second-best free-throw percentage in school history for a game with more than 20 attempts.
Holt led the charge, shooting 5-for-8 from deep to reach her career-best scoring total. She was supported by Josie Williams, who scored 13 of her 16 points in the first half. Williams helped Harding build a 44-29 halftime lead by shooting 5-of-6 from the field in the opening 20 minutes.
The Lady Bisons controlled the first half by capitalizing on mistakes, outscoring Missouri Western 16-4 off turnovers before the break. Harding also went a perfect 12-for-12 from the foul line in the first two quarters.
Missouri Western (2-4) stormed back in the third quarter, dominating the interior. The Griffons outscored Harding 36-16 in the paint for the game and used a 28-point third quarter to trim the deficit. A 3-pointer by Jada Smith cut the Harding lead to 59-57 heading into the final period.
However, Harding regained control in the fourth quarter, outscoring the Griffons 27-14 to seal the victory. Kori Sanders finished with 16 points, going 8-for-8 from the free-throw line, while adding five assists and four steals.
Nakiya Harris led Missouri Western with 18 points and nine rebounds. Ana Oliveira Dias added 13 points and five assists.
