Booker, McBride score 21 each as Harding stifles Henderson State 74-57 for 8th straight win

SEARCY, Ark. — Wesley Booker and Keyln McBride scored 21 points apiece, and Harding stifled the Great American Conference's highest-scoring offense to defeat Henderson State 74-57 on Saturday night at the Rhodes-Reaves Field House.

With the win, Harding (8-2, 4-0 GAC) extended its winning streak to eight games and moved to 4-0 in conference play for the first time in its GAC history. The Bisons remain tied atop the league standings with Southern Nazarene.

Facing a Henderson State squad that entered the night ranked No. 8 nationally in scoring offense (82.7 points per game), the Bisons put on a defensive clinic. Harding held the Reddies (4-6, 3-1 GAC) to a season-low 57 points and limited them to 40% shooting.

The Bisons' defense focused heavily on GAC leading scorer Zaveion Okoh. Entering the contest averaging 18.3 points per game, Okoh was held to just six points on 2-of-10 shooting.

Booker posted his fourth double-double of the season, finishing with 21 points and 12 rebounds. Fresh off a career-high 31 points earlier in the week, the fifth-year senior connected on 4-of-9 attempts from 3-point range.

McBride matched Booker with a season-high 21 points, shooting 4-of-8 from deep and a perfect 7-of-7 from the free-throw line.

Harding dominated the glass, outrebounding Henderson State 40-25. The Bisons pulled down 16 offensive rebounds, helping them attempt 53 shots compared to just 50 for the Reddies. Ty Suess added seven points and eight rebounds for Harding.

The Bisons led wire-to-wire, holding the Reddies scoreless for the first four minutes and taking a 32-24 lead into halftime. Harding pulled away late in the second half, leading by as many as 19 points in the final minute.

Jameel Wesley II led Henderson State with 16 points off the bench, while Xavier Owens added 14 points and five rebounds.

The victory was Harding's 10th consecutive home win dating back to last season. It marks the first time the program has started 4-0 in conference play since the 2010-11 season in the Gulf South Conference.
