Harding Sweeps Doubleheader with Wins Over Missouri Western

SEARCY, Ark. - Harding opened its baseball season in style on Saturday, sweeping a doubleheader from Missouri Western at Jerry Moore Field.

Game 1: Harding 7, Missouri Western 4
Maddox Long pitched six strong innings, allowing just one run on seven hits, to lead Harding to a 7-4 victory in the opener. Keaton Baird earned the save with three innings of relief. The win was Long's 19th at Harding, tying him for fifth in career wins.

Sebastian Martinez drove in two runs with a single in the first inning, and Nathan Bowie added two RBIs of his own, including a sacrifice fly in the second inning. Logan Lacey also had two hits and an RBI for the Bisons.

Missouri Western's Jackson Bryant hit a two-run homer in the eighth inning to cut the deficit to 7-4.

Game 2: Harding 5, Missouri Western 4
In the nightcap, Preston Tabor pitched 4.2 strong innings in his first career start as a Bison, and Javier Lobo earned the save as Harding held off Missouri Western 5-4.

The Bisons scored five runs in the fourth inning to take the lead. The Bisons scored twice on wild pitches before Sebastian Martinez stole home on a double steal, and Coulton Doyle swiped second on the play. Wesley Featherston had an RBI double, and Nathan Bowie added an RBI single in the inning.

Frank Gall had two RBIs for Missouri Western, including a run-scoring single in the fifth inning. The Griffons added a run in the seventh on Gall's groundout, but Lobo shut the door to earn the save.

With the sweep, Harding improves to 2-0 on the season. Missouri Western falls to 0-2.

The two teams will meet again on Sunday for another doubleheader at Jerry Moore Field, beginning at 1 p.m.
