LAFAYETTE, La. – The Harding softball team got two more wins Saturday on the second day of the Mardis Gras Invitational. The Lady Bisons had a walk-off win over No. 7 Augustana 2-1 in eight innings and then turned right around and threw a no-hitter against Miles, winning 20-0 in five innings.
Harding improves to 4-0 on the season.
Game One – Harding 2, No. 7 Augustana 1 (8 Inn.)
Riley Price pitched a complete game and Macy Ham drove in two runs, including the game-winner in the eighth inning, as Harding edged No. 7 Augustana 2-1 on Saturday.
The Vikings took a 1-0 lead in the fourth inning when Ashton Dorman tripled and scored on a Norah Christiansen single. However, Price (2-0) settled in and allowed just five more hits the rest of the way.
Harding tied the game in the sixth inning when Bailey Willis singled and scored on a Ham double. The Lady Bisons (3-0) then won it in the eighth when Cameron Timmons singled, advanced on a sacrifice bunt, and scored on Ham's second double of the game.
Liz Glanzer (0-1) took the loss for Augustana (0-3), allowing two earned runs on four hits in 7 2/3 innings. Price scattered six hits and struck out five for the Harding.
The Vikings had several chances to take the lead, but stranded seven runners on base, including two in the eighth inning.
Game Two – Harding 20, Miles 0 (5 Inn.)
Avery Booker pitched a five-inning no hitter and Harding's offense exploded for 20 runs as the Lady Bisons defeated Miles 20-0 on Saturday. It was Harding's fifth no-hitter.
Harding (4-0) got off to a strong start, scoring two runs in the first inning. Macy Ham singled and stole second, then scored on an error. Jadyn Booth reached on the error and later scored on a sacrifice bunt by Zoey Neal.
The Lady Bisons added nine runs in the second inning, highlighted by Booth's three-run homer. Harding took advantage of two Miles errors in the inning, which contributed to six unearned runs.
Harding continued to pile on the runs, scoring six in the fourth inning and three in the fifth. Miles (0-4) was held hitless and committed six errors in the game.
Booker (1-0) allowed no hits and struck out nine, walking two. The Lady Bisons' offense was led by Ham, who went 2-for-4 with an RBI and four runs scored. Neal drove in four runs, and Booth had four RBIs.
Miles' Renecia Hogans (0-2) took the loss, allowing 11 runs on 11 hits in three innings.
Harding will wrap up the tournament Sunday when it takes on Texas A&M-Kingsville at 10 a.m.
