Bisons Hold On: Harding Edges Arkansas Tech 63-61

RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. — Sam Smith scored 19 points and Harding held off Arkansas Tech 63-61 in a Great American Conference game Thursday night at Tucker Coliseum.

The Bisons, who won in Russellville for the first time since 2016, improved to 15-8 overall and 11-6 in conference, while Arkansas Tech fell to 9-14 overall, losing its fourth straight and dropping to 6-11 in conference.

The Bisons led by as many as eight points in the second half, but Arkansas Tech rallied to make it a close finish. Cassius Brooks scored 19 points to pace the Wonder Boys, who pulled within two points on Brooks' layup with eight seconds remaining.

Harding went without a field goal over the final 3:02, but managed to cling to its lead. Stetson Smithson made two free throws with 20 seconds left to put the Bisons up by four.

Josh Denton added 11 points off the bench for Harding, which shot 44% from the field and 41% from 3-point range. Seybian Sims grabbed six rebounds to lead Arkansas Tech, which shot 53% from the field but committed 16 turnovers.

Harding returns to action on Saturday, hosting Southern Arkansas at 3 p.m. at the Rhodes-Reaves Field House.
