Harding's Late Surge Not Enough in Loss at Arkansas Tech

RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. — Despite a furious fourth-quarter rally, Harding's women's basketball team fell 65-59 to Arkansas Tech on Thursday, dropping the Lady Bisons into a tie for second place in the Great American Conference.

Hayleigh Wyrick scored 23 points and grabbed six rebounds to lead Arkansas Tech (5-16, 3-14 Great American Conference) to its third conference victory of the season.

Aubrey Isbell led Harding (17-6, 13-4) with 18 points, while Sage Hawley added 13 points and 17 rebounds for her 62nd career double-double. Josie Williams also scored 13 points for the Lady Bisons.

Harding trailed by as many as 13 points in the fourth quarter, but an 11-0 run cut the deficit to 58-56 with 2:15 remaining. However, Arkansas Tech's Abbigrace Cunningham hit a 3-pointer with 1:25 left to push the lead back to five.

Harding's Maddi Holt made a layup with 43 seconds remaining to cut the deficit to 61-58, but the Lady Bisons were forced to foul, and Arkansas Tech made four free throws in the final nine seconds to seal the win.

Arkansas Tech outshot Harding 45.5% to 32.4% from the field and held a 34-24 advantage in points in the paint.

Harding's next action is Saturday at 3 p.m. against Southern Arkansas in the Rhodes-Reaves Field House.
