Harding Baseball Sweeps Weekend Series with 12-2 Victory over McKendree

SEARCY - A four-game weekend series turned into a showcase for Harding baseball, as the Bisons completed a sweep of McKendree University with a 12-2 win on Sunday. The victory improved Harding's record to 7-1, while McKendree fell to 0-4.

Harding's offense exploded for 12 runs on just seven hits, taking advantage of six walks and two hit-by-pitches. Harrison Griffith led the charge, going 2-for-3 with a grand slam, five RBIs, and four runs scored. Johnathan Jackson also homered, while Logan Lacey, Kade Smith, Ty Kirkbride and Cooper Newsom added RBIs.

On the mound, Preston Tabor (2-0) earned the win with six strong innings, allowing just one run on six hits while striking out a career-high 12 batters. Tabor's 12 strikeouts were the most by a Harding pitcher since Merritt Jay struck out 12 against Southwest Baptist on February 9, 2024. Kyle Lane pitched the 7th inning in relief, allowing an earned run on two hits.

McKendree's Sage McMinn hit a solo home run in the top of the first inning, but Harding responded with four runs in the bottom half, capped by Griffith's grand slam. The Bisons added single runs in the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th innings to build an 8-1 lead.

In the seventh inning, Harding scored four more runs, highlighted by Griffith's RBI single and Ty Kirkbride's run-scoring single. McKendree's Peyton Bittle added an RBI single in the top of the inning.

With the win, Harding extends its winning streak to five games. The Bisons will open Great American Conference play next weekend against Northwestern Oklahoma in Alva, Oklahoma.
