Harding Falls to No. 7 Pittsburg State in NCAA Regional Quarterfinals

SEARCY, Ark. — The Harding women's basketball team's season came to an end Friday with an 87-75 loss to No. 7-ranked Pittsburg State in the quarterfinals of the NCAA Division II Central Region Tournament.

Despite a strong first half, the Lady Bisons (25-7) couldn't overcome Pittsburg State's hot shooting. The Gorillas (30-3) made 11 of their first 12 shots and shot 62.3% (38 of 61) for the game.
Aubrey Isbell led Harding with 19 points, while Josie Williams added 13 points. Sage Hawley and Rory Geer each scored 12 points, and Maddi Holt chipped in 10 points. All five Lady Bisons starters scored in double figures.

The Lady Bisons fought back from an early deficit to take a 46-44 halftime lead. However, Pittsburg State's offense exploded in the third quarter, outscoring Harding 26-12 to take a 70-58 lead.

The loss marked the end of the season for Harding, which had its third straight 25-win season. It was also the final game for Harding seniors Hawley, Geer and Isbell. Hawley finished her career as Harding's all-time leader in rebounds (1,361) and double-doubles (69) and second in scoring (2,313).

Harding was making its sixth appearance in the NCAA Tournament, all coming since 2014. The Lady Bisons will look to build on their successful season and return to the tournament next year.
