Bisons Drop Doubleheader to Arkansas-Monticello

SEARCY - Harding baseball experienced a tough day on Friday, dropping both games of a doubleheader to Arkansas-Monticello. The Bisons fell 10-1 in the opener before coming up just short in a thrilling 5-4 loss in 13 innings in the nightcap.

In the first game, Arkansas-Monticello's offense proved to be too much for the Bisons, scoring 10 runs on 14 hits. Logan Lacey provided the lone bright spot for the Bisons, belting his 10th home run of the season in the third inning. Harding had 12 hits in the game, with Lacey and Cooper Newsom providing three each. Lacey also smashed his seventh double of the season.

In the second game, Arkansas-Monticello took an early 3-0 lead, but Harding rallied to tie the game in the fifth inning.

The game remained tied until the 11th inning, when Harding appeared to have scored the winning run. With Lacey on second and two out, Harrison Griffin lined a single to left. Lacey rounded third, and a close call at home plate went against the Bisons and the game continued with Arkansas-Monticello eventually scoring the winning run in the 13th inning. Kyle Tolley drew a walk and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt, before Camden Tanner singled home the winning run.

The 13-inning contest tied for the longest game played at Jerry Moore Field in Harding's NCAA era (since 1998).

Trey Miller earned the win for Arkansas-Monticello, pitching two scoreless innings in relief. Kyle Lane took the loss for Harding, surrendering one run on two hits in four innings. Javier Lobo provided five strong innings of relief for the Bisons, yielding only one run of four hits with three strikeouts. Merritt Jay started and went four innings for Harding.

Collin Helms led the Bisons at the plate in Game 2, going 3-for-7 with two doubles. Chance Resetich added a double and two RBIs, while Sawyer Price and Ty Kirkbride each had a hit and scored a run.

With the losses, Harding moves to 25-8 overall and 16-5 in the Great American Conference, maintaining a 2.5-game lead over Southern Arkansas in the GAC standings. The Bisons will face Southern Arkansas in a crucial conference series next weekend in Magnolia.

Arkansas-Monticello improves to 20-13 overall and 14-7 in the GAC, sitting in third place in the conference standings.

Harding's next game is a nonconference home contest against Ouachita Baptist on Tuesday.
