Long Pitches Gem in Harding's 11-0 Win

SHAWNEE, Okla. (AP) — No. 26 Harding defeated Oklahoma Baptist 11-0 at Ford Field on Friday, with Maddox Long pitching a gem.

Long (9-2) went the distance, allowing just two hits and striking out nine. It was the first complete game of the season by a Harding pitcher, and his second career shutout.

Harding (28-11, 17-8 GAC) got on the board in the second inning when Harrison Griffith scored on a wild pitch. The Bisons extended their lead in the fourth. Nathan Bowie singled to right, driving in a run, and then scored on a throwing error. Cooper Newsom added a two-run single in the same inning, making it 5-0.

Kade Smith hit a two-run homer, the first of his collegiate career, in the fifth. Smith also had three hits, a collegiate first. Harding added four more runs in the seventh.

Harding is now 17-8 in conference games and remained in second place in the GAC standings, one game behind Southern Arkansas.

Oklahoma Baptist (19-18) starter David Stuart (5-4) took the loss. The game ended after seven innings due to the NCAA's 10-run rule.

The series continues with a Saturday doubleheader at 1 p.m.
