Harding Defeats Southern Nazarene, Long Earns 10th Win

SEARCY, Ark. – Maddox Long became only the third Harding pitcher ever to win 10 games in a season as the Bisons defeated Southern Nazarene 7-1 on Tuesday at Jerry Moore Field.

Harding (32-12, 19-9 GAC) remained one game back of Southern Arkansas for first place in the Great American Conference standings with the victory.

Long (10-2) joins John Kodatt (1989) and Justin Phillips (2007) as the only Harding pitchers to reach the 10-win mark in a single season. He pitched seven innings, allowing one run on five hits, and struck out eight.

Harding scored five runs in the second inning. Chance Resetich reached on an error, scoring Ty Kirkbride, and then scored later in the inning. Harrison Griffith added a two-run double. Cooper Newsom hit a solo home run, his sixth of the season, in the fourth inning. Griffith finished the day with three RBI.

Southern Nazarene (9-35, 3-25 GAC) scored its only run in the fifth inning when Brady Benedict singled home Tucker LeMay. Will DesHotels (0-4) took the loss, allowing seven runs on seven hits in eight innings.

Josiah Binford pitched two scoreless innings for Harding, striking out five to close out the game.

The teams conclude the three-game series tomorrow with a 1 p.m. doubleheader. Harding will honor its seniors in a pregame ceremony beginning at 12:35 p.m.
