SEARCY — No. 20 Delta State defeated Harding 7-5 on Tuesday in a game that was called after six innings due to a power outage at Jerry Moore Field. Because six innings were completed, the game counts as an official result.
Delta State (32-13) used a two-run second inning and a five-run sixth to secure the victory over Harding (34-13).
Harding jumped out to a 4-2 lead in the second inning, highlighted by a two-run double from Chance Resetich and RBIs from Nathan Bowie and Coulton Doyle. Doyle later added a solo home run in the fourth to extend the Bisons' lead to 5-2.
However, Delta State rallied in the sixth. Andin Johnson drove in a run with a double, and Preston Soper followed with an RBI single. Brendan McCauley's two-run single capped off the five-run outburst for the Statesmen.
A power outage in two light poles near home plate occurred in the bottom of the sixth inning, leading to the game being called for safety reasons.
Aidan McCrady (2-2) earned the win for Delta State in relief, pitching four innings. Josiah Binford (1-1) was credited with the loss for Harding.
The Bisons, tied for first place in the Great American Conference standings, will conclude their regular season with a three-game series this weekend at Arkansas Tech.
