SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Harding defeated Nebraska-Kearney 4-0 in the quarterfinals of the MIAA Tournament at the Cooper Tennis Complex.
The Bisons (15-5), the No. 2 seed from the South Division, advanced to face the North Division's No. 1 seed, Washburn, on Thursday at 2 p.m.
Harding took a 1-0 lead after winning a hard-fought battle in doubles play. Cas de Ruiter and Adrian Solorzano defeated Ivan Melnik and Adrian Constantin 6-3 in the No. 1 doubles match. The pivotal No. 2 doubles match proved to be a marathon, with Florian Gayme and Cian Mikkelsen eventually prevailing over Aaron Osmond and Tom van den Dungen in a thrilling tiebreaker, 7-6 (14-12), after a back-and-forth contest that lasted over an hour. Nebraska-Kearney's Jakub Strzelecki and Andy Brisdon took the No. 3 doubles match 7-5 over Caleb Folse and Edoardo D'Arrigo.
In singles competition, Harding clinched the victory with wins in the first three completed matches. Cian Mikkelsen defeated Ivan Melnik 7-5, 6-3 in the No. 3 singles match. Adrian Solorzano followed with a 4-6, 6-3, 6-3 win over Adrian Constantin at No. 2 singles. Cas de Ruiter secured the fourth point for Harding, defeating Jip Mens 7-5, 4-6, 6-3 in the No. 1 singles match.
The Nos. 4, 5, and 6 singles matches were unfinished.
