Box Score SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Washburn defeated Harding 4-1 on Wednesday in the semifinals of the MIAA Tournament at the Cooper Tennis Complex.
With the loss, Harding (15-6) will await the NCAA Division II Men's Tennis Championship selection show on Monday, May 5, at 7 p.m. on NCAA.com to learn its postseason fate. The top four teams from the Central Region qualify for the regional tournament.
Washburn (18-3), ranked No. 9 nationally, won two of the three doubles matches and three of the five completed singles matches to secure the victory.
Despite losing the doubles point, Harding's No. 1 team of Cas de Ruiter and Adrian Solorzano, ranked 17th nationally, upset the No. 1-ranked team of Matthew Earle and Tim Hammes 6-2.
Harding's No. 10 Cas de Ruiter defeated Washburn's No. 4 Tim Hammes 6-3, 1-6, 6-1 in singles competition. It was de Ruiter's seventh victory over a nationally ranked opponent this season.
Washburn won the other two singles matches in straight sets. No. 8 Vasek Schneider defeated No. 22 Adrian Solorzano 6-0, 2-6, 6-0, and No. 65 Pavlos Parson defeated Cian Mikkelsen 6-2, 6-3.
Washburn also took doubles matches at No. 2 and No. 3.
