SHAWNEE, Okla. – The Harding men's track and field team is in first place after the first day of the Great American Conference Championships at John McDonnell Field.
The Bisons scored 23 points on Wednesday. Harding athletes took third, fourth, and fifth place in the javelin. Junior Casen Hammitt led the way for Harding, finishing third with a mark of 64.92 meters. Junior Kelmen de Carvalho (60.05m) and freshman Christian Erkert (58.07m) finished fourth and fifth, respectively.
Harding also scored in the 10,000 meters with Luke Walling finishing third in a time of 30:44.99 and Nate Perry finishing ninth in 32:02.36.
East Central is in second place with 22 points.
The only two events completed on Wednesday were the javelin and the 10,000 meters.
The championships continue Thursday and Friday.
