Harding defeats Central Oklahoma 10-3 in NCAA Tournament





WARRENSBURG, Mo. — Harding's potent offense exploded for 10 runs, and Javier Lobo pitched six strong innings as the No. 8 seed Bisons defeated No. 4 seed Central Oklahoma 10-3 in the NCAA Division II Central Regional Tournament on Friday.

Lobo earned the win, improving to 3-1 on the season, while Logan Lacey set a school record with his 18th home run of the season, hitting two home runs in a game for the third time this season.

Harding (40-18) eclipsed the 40-win mark for only the second time in school history and will play the loser of Sunday's game between No. 1 seed Central Missouri and No. 5 seed Arkansas Tech tomorrow at 2 p.m. Central Oklahoma's season ended with a 36-17 record.

Lacey gave Harding an early 1-0 lead with a home run over the wall in left center in the bottom of the first inning. Collin Helms followed with a ground-rule double, and Harding took a 2-0 lead when Helms scored on a throwing error by the Central Oklahoma shortstop.

The Bronchos tied the game at 2-2 with two runs in the top of the second inning. But Harding regained the lead in the bottom of the third inning, scoring three runs on five straight hits. Chance Resetich's seventh home run of the season highlighted the inning, giving Harding a 5-2 lead.

Lobo pitched six innings, allowing three earned runs on five hits with one walk and four strikeouts. Seth Johnson relieved Lobo in the seventh inning and went the rest of the way without allowing a hit and striking out four.

Harding broke the game open in the bottom of the seventh inning, scoring four runs. Lacey hit his second home run of the game, and Cooper Newsom and Kade Smith each drove in runs with doubles.

The Bisons added a run in the eighth inning when pinch runner Jonathan Jackson scored on a single by Collin Helms. Johnson retired Central Oklahoma in order in the top of the ninth inning to earn his third save.

Resetich, Smith and Helms each had three hits for the Bisons, who scored 10 runs in an NCAA Tournament game for the first time. The Bisons had eight extra-base hits, five doubles and three home runs, and 16 total hits.
