MUSKOGEE, Okla. — Fueled by a second round that included 25 birdies, the Harding men's golf team stands in eighth place after two rounds of the NSU Men's Classic. The Bisons posted an 8-under 276 on Monday at the Page Belcher Golf Course, tying for the eighth-best round in program history.
Harding's two-round total of 559 puts them at 1-under par for the tournament. The Bisons are the third-highest-ranked team among the nine Great American Conference programs in the 20-team field. Central Oklahoma leads the tournament at 18-under par.
Junior Dennis Staykov was a standout for the Bisons, finishing the day in sixth place individually. Staykov's 5-under 66 in the first round is tied for the fifth-best round in program history. He recorded five birdies and his 15th career eagle on the first hole, a par-5, 532-yard hole. His career eagle total trails only head coach Sam Tandy.
Junior Jose Arzu is tied for 16th with a 3-under 139. Senior Jose Manuel Peralta is tied for 43rd with a 1-over 143. Junior Conner Geist is tied for 75th with a 6-over 148, and sophomore Austin Bibb is tied for 82nd at 7 over. Harding's Trent Harley, competing as an individual, is tied for 67th at 4 over.
The final round of the tournament is scheduled to begin Tuesday at 8:30 a.m.
