Harding’s Streak Halted, Fall to Ouachita Baptist in Three Sets

ARKADELPHIA, Ark.— The Harding volleyball team was unable to break through against the Ouachita Baptist's defense, falling in a three-set sweep to Tigers in a Great American Conference match Thursday.

Harding falls to 10-3 on the season as the loss snapped a seven-match win streak. The Lady Bisons also fall to 1-1 in GAC play.

Ouachita Baptist improves to 12-3 overall and 3-0 in the GAC.

Harding's attack struggled for consistency, ending the night with a .164 hitting percentage against the Tigers' .282 average. Ella Drake and Philomina Klotz led Harding with 10 kills. Klots was efficient with a .409 hitting percentage. Setter Olivia Wiedower posted a double-double with 34 assists and 10 digs. Maddie Burrough led the defense with 12 digs.

The set-by-set breakdown of the match:

·         Set 1: Ouachita Baptist wins 25-21

 Harding struggled to find rhythm, recording a .060 hitting percentage (12 kills, 9 errors). Trailing 16-7, Harding went on a 10-4 run to pull with three, 20-17 but the Lady Bisons couldn't overcome the deficit.

·         Set 2: Ouachita Baptist wins 25-23

Trailing 10-7, Harding went on a 7-3 run to take a 14-13 lead. The set was tied at 23 until Ouachita Baptist forced an attack error and had a kill to win the set. Harding hit .234 in the set.

·         Set 3: Ouachita Baptist wins 25-17

Ouachita Baptist closed out the match with its best set, hitting .355. Harding had a 15-14 lead until Ouachita Baptist went on a 10-1 run on five kills to lead 24-16. After a Harding kill, the Tigers won the set on a kill by Haley Fairchild.

Harding will look to rebound Saturday when it hosts Arkansas-Monticello at 1 p.m., in Searcy at the Rhodes-Reaves Field House.
