MAGNOLIA, Ark. (AP) — The Harding Lady Bisons clinched a hard-fought five-set victory on the road Tuesday night, prevailing 3-2 (21-25, 25-11, 25-22, 18-25, 15-11) over Southern Arkansas in a Great American Conference action.
The victory pushed Harding's record to 12-3 overall and 3-1 in the GAC.
Josie Bishop finished with a career-high 17 kills and a career-high 19 digs for a double-double. Ella Drake contributed 16 kills and a team-best four service aces. Jacey Lambert also had 12 kills and Philomina Klotz had 10. Klotz hit a team-high .429 in the match.
SET HIGHLIGHTS
- Set 1 (Southern Ark. 25, Harding 21): Up 21-18, the Lady Bisons gave up seven straight points to lose the opening set. Harding had 16 kills in the set but seven attack errors.
- Set 2 (Harding 25, Southern Ark. 11): Harding dominated, opening with a 5-0 run fueled by two kills. Leading 18-10, the Lady Bisons went on a 7-1 run on five kills to win the set 25-11. Harding led the whole way and hit .440 in the set.
- Set 3 (Harding 25, Southern. Ark. 22): Harding trailed early in the set 13-9. Trailing again 19-15, the Lady Bisons went on a 10-3 run on five kills to win the set 25-22. Southern Arkansas had 18 kills in the set.
- Set 4 (Southern Ark. 25, Harding 18): The Muleriders took a 11-8 lead early in the set before Harding went on a 6-2 run to lead 14-13. Southern Arkansas answered back with a 7-1 run to lead 20-15. Leading 22-18, the Muleriders won the next three points to force a fifth set.
- Set 5 (Harding 15, Southern Ark. 11): Harding never trailed, hitting a .500 with only one attack error. Tied at five, the Lady Bisons went on a 6-0 run on four kills, three by Jacey Lambert to lead 10-5. Up 14-11, a kill by Josie Bishop gave Harding the win.
Junior setter Olivia Wiedower was the engine of the offense, distributing 49 assists and collecting 12 digs for her own double-double. Defensively, libero Maddie Burrough led the back row with 15 digs, while Wiedower, Bishop, and Avery Stanfill (11 digs) all reached double digits as the team notched 72 total digs.
Harding will be back in action Thursday when it hosts Arkansas Tech at 6 p.m., at the Rhodes-Reaves Field House.
